Lent 10: Turning on the tap?

Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.  Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."  John 4: 13-14

What is this living water?  And how do I get it, because I would really like never to be thirsty again.

I have a feeling that it isn't just a one-time thing.  I have a feeling that I can't just ask once and then be sorted for the rest of my days, though that'd be pretty great.

I think that this spring of water must be something we receive both at the beginning and along the way as we learn and grow and explore.

I don't know this, I'm just guessing; because if I'm wrong and it's a one-time-only thing, then I need to be asking what I'm doing wrong, because I don't feel like I have it yet.  I feel like I've touched or tasted it at times, but I definitely do not have an eternal spring of living water flowing out from within me.

If I need to be asking what I'm doing wrong, then it makes me wonder about the whole message because Jesus seems to suggest that we need only ask.

No, I think this is something we ask for every day and we draw upon in all we do.  I think we need a lifetime to learn to ask for and to receive this living water.

It'd be easier, but probably a whole lot less fulfilling, if we could just turn on the living-water-tap in the bathtub of our lives.  It's probably a bit more like a fountain that we need to learn to stand under and which we keep wandering away from when we think we've had our fill.
