Lent 1: Come.... No really.

Jesus said "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me" (John 7: 37)

I say, "Tell me first what you can do to help me, then I'll think about coming."

Jesus says, "come".

There is no 'after', no 'then'.  Maybe it is not something that Jesus will do that will quench our thirst, but it is Jesus himself - simply coming to him.

A lifelong journey - learning to come to him.

I am an onlooker, watching Jesus like a hawk to see if I can trust him, but never really coming.  I'm not even sure I know what it means to truly come to him.

One thing I know is that I've never really tried.  Never really tried.  I've always been too scared of rejection - of there being nothing there.

"Come to me", he says.

"Ok maybe", I reply.
